Repair, Restoration & Rebuilding
All keyboard instruments are machines that wear with use and deteriorate with age.
When an instrument no longer satisfies your musical needs
repair, restoration, or rebuilding is necessary.
We’re here and happy to be able to help with whatever level of work properly
supports your needs and meets best practices and modern standards.
Piano Restoration & Rebuilding
We provide ‘traditional’ piano rebuilding services for clients and the trade - with the goal to recreate the instrument that was there before. Using current best practices to honor the original intent of the maker, we generally aim to create another successful example of the instrument that was there when it was new.
Piano Rebuilding Services for the Trade
When necessary & appropriate, we include action re-design, string scale design, replacement of Steinway action rails, and other design modifications and less common levels of service. We also offer these services to technicians in the trade who are facing challenges they are not equipped to handle on their own.
If an instrument has you stumped, feel free to reach out and we can likely help solve the mystery!

Much of Lou’s work also focuses on harpsichord building, re-building, repair, and maintenance (and a little clavichord work as well). We have a great network of colleagues who serve as resources when something is outside of our experience or knowledge. These instruments are different from pianos, and should be treated as such. The general goals are often the same; a successful realization of a musical instrument. But the variety of harpsichords is much greater than that of pianos. More study, thought, and research is required to make good decisions for the instrument, the musician, and for those doing the work.
Occasionally, we will also take on work with forte-pianos when it is appropriate. Feel free to reach out about any keyboard instrument you may need help with and we can likely help or find someone who can help you.
